About us

The ECC works to bring a variety of new and innovative technology solutions to Oakland’s under-served communities through partnerships with community organizations, city government, private industry and others. We are in the trenches of the Digital Divide serving as a model how community centers can serve a valuable function in the acquisition of skills and training by those that are all too frequently left out and bypassed.

Every week nearly three hundred people or more participate in ECC computer classes, Internet workshops and public access labs and employment focused training and everything is FREE to the community.

The ECC works at three levels. In our local community, we strive to empower our youth and community through technology. For Oakland as a whole, we work to organize the community and key players to create Oakland Community Information Infrastructure (OCII). At the national level, we work to show that Community Technology Centers are critical to preparing  America for the 21st Century.
